Christmas Competition 6 December 2018

The day started before dawn with players arriving for an 8.24 start. Lots of players arrived wearing Christmas hats, sweaters and some fantastic fancy dresses. After a cloudy and cold start to the day the sun eventually shone after most of us had finished our round. We played a team game using only 3 clubs and a putter with 2 scores to count and it proved to be essential to have chosen the right clubs. Adrian certainly did by scoring an impressive 39 points and winning the prize for best male individual score. 34 points was the best score for the ladies with Trini beating Dot on count back for the prize for best lady.

On hole 6 of the white course, Lennart and Rolf had run a rope down the centre of the fairway earlier in the morning for everyone to attempt a straight drive. I don't know what other teams did, but my team must have thought the competition was for the furthest away from the rope. Joking apart Derek Henderson won for the men and Traute, with an amazing 10cm from the rope, won the ladies prize.

Nearest the pin on hole 7 on the blue course was won by Lilian for the ladies with a distance of 2,46m and Mel beat Derek Kemp with a distance of 3.72m We had a fantastic halfway bar run by Debbie and Anne which was fortunately still open after 18 holes.

At 19.45 on the terrace, over looking the sea, at El Espigón the party started with corks popping from bottles of Cava. We later moved into the restaurant for our celebration dinner followed by fun and games. Our presentations began with a prize for best fancy dress. After a lot of discussion we gave prizes to Ingrid O who dressed as a gingerbread girl and Yvonne who spent the day playing golf dressed as a Christmas Tree.

The individual prizes were announced followed by the team scores. As in previous years everyone, including our non-golfers brought a wrapped gift. These were used as prizes with the winning team having first choice. Our non-golfing guests were invited to choose a gift part way through the presentation meaning that the team that came last had to fight amongst themselves for what was left on the table! They blamed their bad score on 'Doris' saying she was absolutely useless!

Overall a good time was had by all, ending the evening late into the night, with music and dancing.
